Your answer: We use Microsoft Teams and staff call each other inside it, but external calls run on the phone system — so each person has two numbers and two voicemail boxes.
Two things are worth separating here. The first is whether each person has one number and one voicemail box, because two of each means messages accumulate in the one nobody checks and presence is only ever half right. The second is who provides the calling and what it can do: Microsoft publishes four ways to connect Teams to the telephone network, one of which makes Microsoft the operator and three of which do not — and Microsoft is explicit that Teams’ own calling covers auto attendant and call queues, with anything built around a customer journey needing a platform integrated alongside it. So a business whose calling is person-to-person has more options than one running queues, recording or automated voice handling.
